Hawlucha

Feats

Can keep up with heavy bruisers like Machamp and Hariyama
-Specimens showcase remarkable intelligence and combat intuition </b>
-Resistant to Fighting, Bug, Grass and Dark-Type attacks; and immune to Ground-Type Attacks </b>
-In the anime, Ash's (then-wild) Hawlucha managed to tie with the better-trained Froakie </b>

"Hawlucha, the Wrestling Pokémon. Although its body is small, its proficient fighting skills enable it to keep up with big bruisers like Machamp and Hariyama. With its wings, it controls its position in the air. It likes to attack from above, a maneuver that is difficult to defend against."

Edge: (opens mouth to speak... only to pause) Wait, I just realized ...there... isn't really much backstory to go through on this one. Is it absolutely neces-

Meta: Yes, because there may be some people out there that don't know anything about this thing.

Edge: Yeeeesss, because the Serebii Pokédex and Bulbapedia are far too advanced for our audience to POSSIBLY comprehend. (rolls eyes)

Meta: Exactly!

Edge: ....I am so telling the other writers you said that... Hawlucha is a dual-type Fighting/Flying Pokémon, and one of the newest additions to the ever-growing National Dex; inspired by birds of prey and luchador wrestlers. It is ALSO theorized, however, that Hawlucha may also - in fact - be partially based off of Mexican history and the ancient Aztec eagle warriors.

Gamer: The who what now?

Blake: Aztec Eagle warriors. A special class of infantry soldier in the Aztec army, made up of the bravest soldiers of noble birth and those who had taken the greatest number of prisoners in battle, who gained their names from the feathered headdresses - heavily modeled off of an eagle's - that they wore into battle, as well as their feathered shields.

Edge: Wow, Blake, I didn't think you'd know that, what with you being from a different world and all...

Blake: Yeah, I spend a lot of my free time reading, when Gamer and UniKitty aren't dragging me off to some crazy party...

UniKitty: Aw, c'mon, Blakey, you love the parties!

Edge: ...and, to be honest, that's sort of all I can really say, in regards to backstory. Hawlucha was introduced only last year so there's only one Generation to work with. I mean, Ash captured a Hawlucha recently, but it hasn't really demonstrated enough to warrant expansion yet. So... let's just... move on to the physicality, shall we? Hawlucha, unlike most Fighting-Types, is a small, lightweight Pokémon and likely has hollow bones - much like a real-life avian - which enable it to fly, but also are extremely fragile and easy to break.

Meta: Like Gamer's sense of self-worth, I guess you could say.

Edge: ...what the hell was that for?

Gamer: You see what I go through every day with this guy?!

Blake: We try to stop him. Heaven knows we try...

UniKitty: We try, and try, and TRY, AND TRY, AND TRY AND TRY, AND HE JUST! WON'T! STOP! ...Sorry...

Blake: [Scratches her ears] We all understand. Moving on... That small build is also Hawlucha's greatest advantage--allowing it to use speed and mobility to avoid being struck or grappled in a fight. Like most Pokémon, it also possesses an extent of superhuman strength. Through being taught the HM Fly, it can haul around its Trainer across entire Regions without tiring for a long period of time; and, considering its Attack stat is stronger than that of Scrafty AND Drapion, can perform many of the same feats the two of them have--including shatter concrete with its kicks, and tear through metal with its claws.

Gamer: Hawlucha also has an advanced equiliabrium-

Edge: Equilibrium.

Meta: *cough*Dumbass*cough*

Edge: (glares at Meta before turning back to Gamer) But good try.

Gamer: -that allows it to control its own position in the air with its wings.

Blake: While its Defenses are... unremarkable compared to OTHER specimens, its stamina and durability allow it to fight a Machamp or Hariyama - both of whom dwarf and outweigh Hawlucha at 5'03''/286.6 lbs and 7'07''/559.5 lbs respectively - on equal footing, as well as endure high-pressure water blasts, energy beams, ice attacks, lightning strikes, streams of fire, tackles capable of knocking tanks over and many other elemental attacks. At worse, these attacks may knock Hawlucha out; but, with a bit of rest and medical attention, he'll be up and ready to continue the fight anew.

Meta: Hawlucha's speed, however, is its greatest attribute. Faster than a Pidgeot's base Speed, capable of flight faster than Mach 2, Hawlucha likely has supersonic speed and reaction times, and is capable of flight thanks to its wings and light body.

Edge: A lesser known fact about Wild Hawlucha is that they may, occasionally, be holding an item; most of these having in-battle effects. Hawlucha's wild hold item of choice is the King's Rock--a jagged, crown-like rock that, when the user strikes with a damaging move, can occasionally make the target flinch with fear.

Gamer: That's all? A flinch? ...I don't really think FLINCHING is going to do much in a fight; I mean, most fighters can recover fairly quick-

Meta: (raises a baseball bat, as if to hit Gamer, causing him to flinch... before then flicking his forehead) ...you can be surprised how effective flinching actually is. Leaves you wide open, in that split second, for any skilled fighter to wallop ya. (throws bat away casually)

Edge: (growling) Are you SERIOUSLY just gonna pick on him for this entire Prelude? AGAIN?!

Meta: Well, it IS sort of my thing so... yeeeeeah. I fail to see why this is such a problem to-

Edge: You, sir, have some SERIOUS issues to work out...

Blake: We can't convince him to see the psychiatrist, so the chances of him actually managing to work out these little issues of his aren't too likely...While all Pokémon have their own unique abilities and skills, all of them share a few common traits. STAB, an abbreviated term for Same Type Attack Boost, increases the power of all Hawlucha's Fighting and Flying-Type attacks by an additional fifty percent.

Meta: A Critical Hit ignores any negative stat changes that the attacker suffers, or any defense boosts that the opponent has buffed themselves with... in MOST cases, and inflicts double the damage. However, the chances of landing a Critical Hit are only about 6.25%.

UniKitty: That seems kinda bad, but there's an upside to it! Some moves can make critical hits more likely to actually happen, and Hawlucha can learn some of those moves! There's also type resistances and immunities! It's kinda like rock-paper-scissors...Except...eighteen types instead of three hand gestures and...a lot more rules to remember...[Stops for a moment with a thoughtful expression on her face before her face brightens up into a wide smile] Anyway!

Edge: She's... quick to bounce back, isn't she? ...I like her!

UniKitty: Hawlucha's type gives it special resistance to Fighting, Bug, Grass and Dark attacks, and Ground attacks are completely useless against it!

Edge: Hawlucha, as a species, has a number of unique abilities of its own, however. Years of living in the wild and combating larger, stronger Fighting-Types have given the species an instinctive fighting style - finessed by intuition and adaptation, honed by experience, and naturally picked up by all Hawlucha - that utses their lightweight bodies to keep up with larger bruisers; often utilizing strikes from the air, due to the difficulty in predicting and blocking aerial strikes.

Blake: Hawlucha also can have one of three abilities that have in-battle uses that can benefit its fighting chances. Unburden, the most commonly used ability, allows Hawlucha to double its speed when it loses its hold item.

Gamer: Oh, so THAT'S why you brought up the King's Rock!

Meta: No shit, Sherlock. (rolls eyes) Anyway, Limber prevents the user from being paralyzed...

UniKitty: And its Hidden Ability, Mold Breaker, makes any abilities that hinder any attacks completely useless! But hidden abilities are kinda rare, so it's not likely for a Hawlucha to have this...

Meta: And, as with all other Pokémon, Hawlucha is packing a diverse pool of offensive and support abilities in its movepool! The rules for this are the same as most cases: we will only be looking at Hawlucha's natural moveset. No TMs nor HMs will be included, nor Egg Moves, and all naturally-learned attacks are available for the battle. And, to start things off, it has the move Detect: allowing Hawlucha to predict and react rapidly to enemy attacks, guaranteeing them the ability to evade it and protect themselves. However, repeated use of Detect increases the chances of the move failing; wasting time and leaving Hawlucha wide openf or an attack.

Gamer: Tackle is... well, a full-body tackle. That's it.

Blake: Hone Claws can be used to sharpen Hawlucha's claws, increasing the power of its Attacks by one stage, and the same with the accuracy of its attacks.

Edge: It should be noted that, when we describe Stat boosts - in the case of Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack and Special Defense - that is an increase of said Attribute by fifty percent for each stage. Accuracy works slightly differently, but it is still an increase by up to a third of base value. Which means, by the time a Pokémon reaches +6, the maximum stage boost available, it can increase its Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack and Special Defense to 400% of its base value, and its accuracy to 300%.

Meta: ...you really ARE a nerd...

Edge: (sarcastically) Oh, calamity and woe! Boo-hoo-hoo! Woe is me! I feel SOOOOO ashamed for being a "nerd" with expertise in enough fields to have been able to co-host a wide number of battles and a LARGE NUMBER OF FRIENDS, and being called out on it by a jerkass with NON-wait, what was your point supposed to be, exactly? (smirks triumphantly)

Meta: Yeah? Well...You're...Stupid...

Edge: [Complete deadpan] Oh my God, I am hurt. Where in the world did you ever get such a biting comeback. I need some ointment for that sick burn you just inflicted upon me.

Meta: ...Jerk.

Edge: Coming from YOU? I'm gonna take that with a grain of salt.

Blake: Its basic Fighting-Type offensive move is Karate Chop--a Fighting-Type move and a powerful karate chop that has a higher chance of ladning a Critical Hit. Wing Attack, meanwhile, is its basic offensive Flying-Type move: a strike with outstretched wings to inflict damage.

UniKitty: If the poor thing gets too badly beaten up, on top of a little Hello Kitty band-aid, it can bring up 50% of its health by using Roost...but it needs to be on the ground to do this. And that means it's vulnerable to any attack. Yes, that does include Ground attacks.

Gamer: Aerial Ace is a lightning-fast slash attack and Flying-Type move that ignores any accuracy drops or evasive techniques, always hitting the opponent!

Meta: EXCEPT for adversaries that are of a higher altitude, underground or submerged underwater.

Blake: Encore compels the opponent to use only the last form of attack that it used, for the next three rounds.

Edge: Fling is a Dark-Type attack and... more of a technical move. See, it involves throwing the user's hold item at the opponent to inflict damage, the attack's power varying depending on the item. And then, we have Hawlucha's signature attack... Flying Press! Unique from all other moves, in the game, as it is a DUAL-TYPE move--both Fighting and Flying in typing--that is, if Ash's Hawlucha's behavioural traits are to be used as a guideline, the preferred "finishing move" of the species. Much like how a wrestler has their own preferred finishing blow.

UniKitty: Bounce is a Flying type move...for some reason...If I go on a trampoline, does that mean I'm flying...? Anyway, Hawlucha bounces into the air, too high to get hurt by pretty much any attack, and then, BOOM! It falls onto its enemy, with a thirty percent chance of paralyzing them!

Blake: Endeavor is a Normal-Type Physical attack that cuts the opponent's health and energy levels to an equal level to that of the user's, if they are the weaker of the two.

Meta: Feather Dance is a Flying-Type Status move that covers the opponent in a mass of down, harshly lowering their Attack sta-

Gamer: Which means that, translated from stages to percentage boosts and drops, it drops down to fifty percent of its original value! :D

Meta: ...

Blake: ...Gamer, did you...?

Edge: And thus, the student has become the master. (wipes eyes) I am so proud.

Unikitty: YAY, GAMER!

Meta: ...does... not... compute... does... not... compute...

Edge: Can you EVER be nice to the guy?!

Unikitty: ...um... so, where were we? Oh yeah, High Jump Kick is next! High Jump Kick is Hawlucha's strongest Fighting-Type attack; a powerful jump knee kick that leaves really bad booboos on opponents struck by it, and even knock out giants like Steelix in one hit! ^^ BUUUUUT, if it misses, it cannot stop itself-

Meta: Duetothemomentumandforceofthejumpresultinginafastaccelerationratethatcannotbecontrolled! HA! I'm still the smart one!

Blake: (curtly raises a brow)

Gamer: Can't you just give me ONE MOMENT where I can be the smart guy, dammit?!

Blake: Just... Just continue, Unikitty...

UniKitty: -And then ends up crashing, which does half the damage to it that it would have done to the opponent. And since Hawlucha doesn't have the BEST defences in the world...That's kinda bad.

Edge: But, while Flying Press is Hawlucha's signature move, its most POWERFUL move would be the Flying-Type attack, Sky Attack. A two stage attack, Hawlucha gathers a powerful aura around itself, forming an encompassing armor of pure energy... before, afterwards, diving down and striking with wicked force; the attack's power being so devastating that it not only has a heightened chance of landing a Critical Hit, but also a 30% chance of making the opponent flinch with fear.

Gamer: ...which, in hindsight, makes its last two moves a bit... underwhelming.

Meta: With the Flying-Type move Sky Drop, Hawlucha grapples its opponent and flies up high whilst carrying them - preventing the use of most forms of attacking that an opponent could execute - before then throwing them back down to Earth.

Blake: And finally, the Normal-Type status move Swords Dance. Through the use of an invigorating battle dance, Hawlucha can then raise its battling spirit, and increase its attack power by two stages.

Edge: ...hey Gamer, if you want, I could teach you a couple of invigorating dances that raise spirit...

Gamer: Ooh?

Edge: Yeah! In fact... I think I know a certain special someone who would LOVE to see them...

Gamer: Who? My mom?

Meta: Ha! Your mom disowned you! [Meta's eyes widen and he stiffens]

Blake: Meta! You know he's sensitive about that!

UniKitty: WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!

Meta: He's just being a baby-[Edge grabs him by the throat]

Edge: I think I have heard quite enough out of you today, you good for nothing little asshole.

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please stand by.

[Meta is laying unconscious against the wall, his blood splattered across the room]

Gamer: [Sobbing] MOMMY STILL LOVES ME! R-Right...?

Blake: Of course she does, Gamer. [Rubs his back]

UniKitty: She's your mom, how could she not? [Nuzzles him]

Gamer: Okay! :D Take it away, Kitty!

Unikitty: Sadly, as awesome as Hawlucha is-

Gamer: Everything is awesome! Everything is cool when you work as a-</i>

Blake: Okay, no one is allowed to say the word "awesome" in this house any more.

UniKitty: He didn't even get the song right... As awe.... inspiring as Hawlucha is, it has weak points. It's attack is better than most Flying types, but it's also below most fighting types. And because it's small and light, its defense isn't too good, especially in the Special Defence category, where it's lower than most Flying Types AND most fighting types.

Edge: Hawlucha also has a Type weaknesses against Electric, Psychic, Flying, Ice and Fairy-Type attacks.

Blake: And finally, certain Types - such as Rock, Steel and Electric-Types; as well as Bug, Fairy, Flying, Poison, Fighting and Psychic-Types - can resist certain attacks of his.

Gamer: But, in spite of having only been introduced this Gen, Hawlucha has already won himself a fanbase and respect, with his skill, tenacity and adorably badass appearance!

Edge: While Gen VI had a notable LACK of new Pokémon compared to the past Generations... it sure as heck made up for it with quality... asidefromLysandre.

Gamer, Blake and UniKitty: ...

Edge: ...I REALLY hate Lysandre.

Meta: [Groans]

Blake: ...Think we should help him?

Edge: No. It's too late for him.

Hawlucha faces off against Ash's Froakie for the first time

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rikochet

Feats:

-Defeated many fellow luchadore students, some of which were bigger and stronger than him
-Single-handedly defeated three opponents at once with the help of quick thinking </b>
-Held his own against a taller, equally skilled opponent in a cage filled with molten rocks suspended over the ocean with piranhas, sharks and carnivorous clowns swimming around it.  [Yeah, this is a bizarre show.] </b>
-Defeated a giant octopus [albeit with help] </b>
-Defeated a dream demon </b>
-Defeated two larger opponents at the same time using strategy </b>

Edge: ...ooookay, I KNOW it has been a while since I watched WWE but... dafuq? What kind of wrestling company LICENSES this?! This isn't entertainment; this is an injury lawsuit waiting to happen! ...and I LOVE IT!

Blake: Rikochet is a student at the school of Lucha Libre, basically a school that revolves almost entirely around Luchadore wrestling.

Gamer: ...Where do I sign Meta up?

UniKitty: Meta can't wrestle!

Gamer: Exactly!

Blake: His life's dream is to be the greatest luchadore of all time. With the help of his friends, Buena Girl and The Flea, and a talking action figure named El Ray, he may have what it takes to accomplish this goal.

Edge: Rikochet is short and lightweight. He uses his size to his advantage with a quick, acrobatic and agile fighting style.

Gamer: He's got a few strength feats up his belt too! He can pin down and hold opponents that are way bigger than him, he can...uh...smash coconuts with his bare hands effortlessly...

Edge: Ran out of things to say there?

Blake: Well, Rikochet doesn't really have many strength feats to go off of. He tends to rely more on his speed, agility and quick thinking.

UniKitty: Rikochet is a cartoon character, so it only makes sense that he runs off of cartoon physics. He can take having his head slammed into metal bars, falling out of the sky, and having people and objects that are WAAAAAAAY bigger than him falling on top of him!

Edge: And yet, even with toon physics backing him up, he's still not as OP as Popeye...

Blake: There are few characters in any media who are as overpowered as Popeye...The closest I can think of are Asura and Gurenn Lagann... There's a couple fight concepts if anyone wants those...Rikochet trains in Luchadore wrestling, which is basically grappling your opponent and slamming into them in an attempt to pin them down for three seconds. This is a far more extreme version of Luchadore wrestling, though, since its cartoon wrestling, so unlike actual real life Luchadore wrestling, there doesn't seem to be any problems with using the ropes as leverage in this world, among other things...

UniKitty: Rikochet's a smart cookie when it comes to fighting! He uses his size and agility to trick other wrestlers! A big, bad muscley man is running towards you? Just jump out of the way and watch him get sent flying by the ropes! Yaaaaay! ...He also cheats by using the ropes to launch himself at enemies, but Blakey already pointed out that that's allowed in this world...

Gamer: Rikochet also uses strategy to his advantage, and will use anything he can in a fight, from tripping his opponent to turning their attacks against them.

Edge: He also has a few very special attacks. The first of these is the Pulverizing Pinball, where he basically morphs into a ball and rolls into his opponent. Is he does this in the air, he'll crash down on his target. And if he hits the ground in ball mode, he'll live up to his name and ricochet off of things until he comes out of his ball mode. Then there's the Spinning Top. Rikochet rapidly spins his body, like a top, until his body forms a tornado-like shape. Then, he rams into the opponent, and...well, the effect sort of depends on the episode. One episode it'll just send them flying, and another he'll suck them in and send them flying back out. [Blinks as he realizes how bizarre that all sounded. He sniffs his Coke bottle to make sure it isn't spiked] ...I guess the magic DIDN'T die with the 80s...

Blake: Still, he has weaknesses. He's usually at his best when he's got another wrestler by his side, mainly Buena Girl or The Flea. Physically, he's not all that strong. He's still a student, which likely means he's yet to fully hone his capabilities as a wrestler. And he gets angry and loses his common sense when insulted, as shown when he challenged three students who were far above his weight class when they insulted his size, as well as when he challenged another student to a fight in a cage full of molten rocks suspended over the ocean, with piranhas, sharks and carnivorous clowns swimming around [It was partly his idea, too]

Edge: ...okay, there's BOOK DUMB... then there's SHONEN HERO DUMB... and then... there's RIKOCHET DUMB.

Gamer: No comment on the carnivourous clowns?

Edge: Oh no, I noticed it. It's just, y'know, I grew up with the Joker, Kefka Palazzo and Harley Quinn among the most prominent villains of my childhood so... crazy killer clowns doesn't really faze me anymore, truth be told... that, and I live with Deadpool and Discord, remember?

Gamer, Blake and UniKitty: [Nod in understanding]

Rikochet: I fight for honour...family...tradition...and doughnuts!
